Muir urges Holywood to speak out about Redburn Primary closure

I am urging local people to respond to the consultation being undertaken by Department of Education concerning proposed closure of Redburn Primary School, Holywood.

With the consultation closing on 20 February 2012 it's vital that people respond and make their views known before this valuable school is lost. Redburn Primary School enjoys strong links with Palace Barracks whilst also an key part of the local community and shouldn't be facing the axe.

I am very concerned that closure plans are being progressed and feel that closing Redburn Primary School would be unfair, illogical and discriminatory. The Education and Library Board is moving to close this school whilst other similar schools are allowed to remain open and the new Schools Project in Holywood remains ready to proceed once capital funding is awarded.

Rather than proceeding apace to close this school with extreme haste the Education Commissioners should wait until the wide ranging review commissioned by the Education Minister is completed and all efforts made to secure capital funding for the long awaited Holywood New Schools Project.

I urge people to contact the Department of Education and make their views known before 20 February 2012. Responses can be made in writing to Department of Education (Redburn Primary Development Plan), Rathgael House, Balloo Road, Rathgill, Bangor, BT19 7PR.
