From
Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th March 2003 I visited Amsterdam with
Stephen and his two friends Paul & Lynne.
The high level of street crime, the prolific problem re
the blatant sale of cocaine and other hard drugs plus the fear of
being knocked down either by a tram (which often seemed to appear from
nowhere!) or fast moving bicycle didn't overshadow a pleasant three
day short break.

Guides
If you are considering visiting the city the free guide issued by "The
Chicago Comedy Show" is excellent and a poorly scanned version in
Adobe Acrobat PDF format can be downloaded by
clicking here. You may also
wish to visit the web site for the Amsterdam Tourist Board at
www.visitamsterdam.nl
The Time Out guide priced at £11.99 is also good but
let us down when we travelled a considerable distance to a listed
restaurant which then appeared to have been demolished!
Flights & Accommodation
We flew from Belfast to Amsterdam via
Easyjet for £40
return and stayed in the 3 star
Avenue Hotel
for a remarkably low rate of £20 per person per night, booked via
British Airways. The hotel was excellent: clean and modern
rooms with lots of tv channels and a very high standard buffet
breakfast. It's also only 5 minutes walk from Central Railway Station
and near Al's Plaice, a traditional English Fish & Chip shop!

Anne Frank Whilst
unable to take any pictures inside the Anne Frank House we did take a
picture from outside of the house and one with myself standing beside
her statue.
The Anne Frank house has a web site at
